Dick Goodman, founder of Daystar Products International,
Inc., the worldwide leading supplier of light truck
/ SUV aftermarket suspension components, is a 7500 hour,
Multi-engine ATP, Glider pilot with type ratings in
the Boeing 377 (Stratocrusiser) and the North American
B25! Dick worked with the Glenn L. Martin Company in
the Experimental Flight Test, Instrumentation Section
and was assigned as a pilot for SAC, Airborne Refueling
in the 1950s. Now retired, Dick flies a 1975 Cessna
414 outfitted with dual GPS, onboard radar, dual StormScopes,
a MFD and EGPWS. When WSI approached him to participate
in our WSI InFlight Founders group, a select number
of owners willing to shake down the system before commercial
release, he was more than willing to participate but
he was forthright with his intention to be brutally
honest. You see Dick had a competitive data-link system
already installed and he was going to give us a side-by-side,
blow-by-blow comparison.
For the installation of WSI InFlight Dick choose the
book rack behind the copilot seat to locate the carry-on/carry-off
AV100 receiver. The WSI InFlight antenna is mounted
in a row of two like GPS antennas directly above the
pilots seat on the exterior of the aircraft. Using
a toggle switch Dick views WSI InFlight data on either
a Dell Inspirion laptop in the cabin or Compaq iPAQ
primarily used by his copilot, Mrs. Goodman.
As promised Dick continues to give us side-by-side comparisons
of performance in systems. So what does he think of WSI
InFlight? Its Great! On cross country flights
WSI InFlight works as advertised - from start up to shut
down. And of the competitors product?
I told them that the WSI is better and that I want the
WSI InFlight interface on their multifunctional display.
Thanks Dick! WSI is working hard to make WSI InFlight
available on as many MFDs and other types of displays
as possible. We want to give all pilots access the most
trusted name in aviation weather - WSI InFlight.
