The third tropical storm of the Atlantic Hurricane Season turned into a Category 4 Hurricane within hours of coming ashore on the western side of the Florida peninsula. The rapid intensification along with a track that included a sharp turn to the East surprised many. WSI Corporation was in overdrive, helping residents of the Southeast to keep tabs on this powerful storm.
WSI’s Media Service and Meteorological Operations center was on high alert as Hurricane Charley approached Florida. WSI effectively assisted utility companies to place mobile assets in the most advantageous positions to restore services to communities after the storm passed.
WSI Programming kept the public informed on the storm’s progress by producing over 5,000 custom animation graphics that were used in over sixty media outlets! These animations accurately depicted the storm’s track as well as indicated area’s of traffic congestion due to the large area affected by evacuation orders. National media outlets featuring WSI’s work included The Weather Channel; Fox News and CNN.
WSI is extremely proud of the work done to help people stay abreast of Hurricane Charley. We believe that the efforts undertaken by our staff have had a positive effect on assisting the general public, utilities and government agencies. We are also cognizant that Hurricane Charley extracted a huge toll both in lost property and lives. We extend our condolences to families that have suffered loss due to the hurricane and have encouraged our staff to donate to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.
WSI is number one in providing broadcast media the tools and information to produce on-air weather forecasts. Beyond our partnership with our sister company, The Weather Channel, it is more likely than not that when you watch local or national weather forecast segments you are watching a show that has been produced with the assistance of a WSI product.
