As you may be aware, the National Weather Service's Tropical Prediction
Center (TPC) has extended the current 72-hour (3-day) forecast for
tropical storms, hurricanes, etc. to 120-hours (5 days), effective May 15, 2003.
In response to this change, WSI has modified its Hurricane Tracking
software as part of WeatherProducer version 3.0N.
Since any early season tropical activity tends to be concentrated in the
Gulf of Mexico and northwest Caribbean, the release of the new software
is being distributed to customers currently on software maintenance
contracts in those locations first, followed by customers in more inland
locations.
Customers were assigned zones based on proximity to the Atlantic and
Gulf Basin as follows:
|
|
- Zone 1 - Customers in states with coastlines
on the Gulf of Mexico within approximately 300
miles of the coastline, or a national account.
- Zone 2 - Customers with coastlines along
either the Gulf or Atlantic Ocean not covered
by Zone 1, plus Hawaii and Southern California customers.
- Zone 3 - All remaining customers.

The new software will be mailed to customers automatically based on the
zone. Once received, customers are asked to contact our customer
support office @ (978) 670-5150 to schedule a remote installation.
If you have not received your upgrade or have any questions regarding
this release, please contact Jeri Wesson, WSI Customer Relations @
(978) 262-0612 or contact her by e-mail jwesson@wsi.com.
It is important to note that current versions of the Hurricane Tracking
software within the WeatherProducer will continue to function properly (out
to 72 hours for forecast times). Version 3.0N merely allows the display of
the extended periods.
