WSI Leverages Intel Technology to Develop WeatherPro EXP™ - the Next Generation WeatherProducer®

Introduced to the broadcast market late last year, and making it's first public debut at NAB 2003, WSI's WeatherPro EXP promises to deliver unmatched performance.

Billerica, Massachusetts and the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show, Las Vegas, Nevada, April 7, 2003. Today at NAB (Booth C3758), WSI (Weather Services International), the leader in professional, on-air weather technology for broadcast and cable television, debuted their all-new WeatherPro EXP™ that was introduced to the marketplace late last year. Based on Intel workstation technology, this next generation of WSI's WeatherProducer is clearly the most powerful on-air meteorological workstation and automated graphics production system available to the industry today.

"We're proud to say that WSI has taken what has become the standard in weather graphics workstation technology, and made it even better," states Jim Brihan, vice president of media product marketing at WSI. "The move to the Intel workstation platform allows our customers to experience performance gains of 8-20 times that of older platforms," continues Jim. "This increase in performance helps stations gain and keep their competitive advantage, since literally dozens of on-air weather products are automatically produced and ready for air at a moments notice to cover any weather situation, 365 days a year."

WSI decided to develop the next generation to their existing WeatherProducer after moving their Showfx™ and TrueView™ products to an Intel platform and seeing up to a 20-times increase in performance for these two products.

WSI cites three reasons for developing WeatherPro EXP - increased performance, open platform architecture, and the opportunity to display higher-end graphics. "Converting to an Intel platform means increased performance for customers not only now, but in the future as well," explains Jim. "As the technology curve moves towards even faster processing, so will WeatherPro EXP."

"WeatherPro EXP's open platform architecture makes it easier and more cost-effective to maintain," comments Jim. "There's no proprietary hardware and station engineers find the platform much easier to support with cost-effective servicing."

Existing WeatherProducer customers can experience a smooth upgrade path to WeatherPro EXP and enjoy the efficiency gains of the much faster system. WSI will continue to support the existing WeatherProducer platform.
