Andover, Mass. - April 15, 2005
- CNN launched WSI Corporation’s new TITAN
2.0 weather system in mid-March. Designed to provide first-to-air,
neighborhood-level forecasts and depictions of severe and
disruptive weather, the new TITAN release uses volumetric
radar data and employs sophisticated interactive capabilities
to create the highest quality 3-D images for televised
weather coverage.
WSI is the leading provider of weather data and graphics
services for over 50 percent of the nation’s broadcasters
and major cable networks, as well as the majority of U.S.
pilots and professional aviators.
TITAN 2.0 has quickly become the system of choice in markets
where weathercast accuracy saves lives. WWSB-TV in Sarasota,
WTVF in Nashville and KSN in Wichita have also recently
initiated the system.
TITAN also offers broadcasters exclusive predictive data
that comes in from WSI headquarters, including the Rapid
Precision Mesoscale (RPM) forecast model. This highly advanced
model provides broadcasters with 48-hour forecasts of severe
weather events, long before the thunderstorms, blizzards
and driving rain unfold.
In an analysis of the disruptive weather events of 2003-2004,
TITAN forecasts proved to be 33%-44% more accurate than official
public forecasts in predicting the specific time of impact,
location of rainfall and intensity of each storm.
Additionally, TITAN’s Early Warning Storm detection
identifies areas of dangerous wind shear and large hail,
and delivers critical storm information much faster and more
precisely than available NEXRAD information.
“WSI is committed to enabling our clients to be the
best at detecting, forecasting and visualizing disruptive
weather of any type,” said WSI President Mark Gildersleeve. “TITAN
and the RPM model are the latest advances to let the viewer
know, better than ever before, what’s significant,
and when it will affect them. We are very pleased to be a
part of the weather team at these important media outlets.”
