-- FAA issues Parts Manufacturer Approval for WSI Corporation’s AVX-5 enabling WSI InFlight™ weather information to be provided to the most popular Garmin displays --
Andover, MA - September 29, 2004
WSI Corporation today announces FAA certification of the WSI
InFlight Dash 5 system that provides award-winning WSI InFlight
cockpit weather service compatible with Garmin 500 and 400
series panel mounted display devices. Parts Manufacturer Approval
(PMA) issued by the Federal Aviation Authority is now effective
for the WSI AVX-5 Smart Connector. The Smart Connector, in
concert with the FAA Certified WSI InFlight AV200 receiver
is known as the WSI InFlight Dash 5 system (AV200-5) and delivers
industry leading 2 KM resolution WSI NOWrad® radar mosaics,
graphical and textual U.S. METARs via continuous satellite
broadcast to the popular Garmin displays.
The WSI InFlight Dash 5 system features a continuos ‘downlink’ from
a geosynchronos satellite, offering owners of Garmin 530/430
displays a superior option for cockpit weather information
than previously available. The WSI InFlight Dash 5 system
provides full coverage at any altitude in the contiguous
United States. WSI NOWrad imagery is the only radar mosaic
that is quality controlled by degreed meteorologists. The
resolution of WSI NOWrad is three times finer than other
options available for these displays. Additionally, because
the data-stream is continuously broadcast to the cockpit,
the latest weather information is always onboard the WSI
InFlight equipped aircraft.
“So many pilots who own a Garmin 530/430 have approached
us since the launch of WSI InFlight requesting compatibility
between the systems,” stated Ira Scharf, Vice President
of Product Management for WSI’s Aviation and Marine
Business Group. “It is gratifying to be responsive
to this loyal customer base and deliver a FAA certified solution
for their needs.”
WSI is currently fulfilling a large backorder for the WSI
InFight Dash 5 systems following a highly anticipated product
launch at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh. New orders for WSI InFlight
Dash 5 systems will begin shipping within three weeks as
the backlog is cleared. Aircraft owners with an existing
Garmin 500 or 400 series device need simply to purchase and
install the WSI InFlight Dash 5 system with a WSI InFlight
Authorized Dealer, and then subscribe to WSI InFlight service
to receive data.
