-- The first in a series of Universal Avionics panel mounted displays to support WSI, the industry leader in cockpit weather solutions --
LAS VEGAS, NV, October 12, 2004 — WSI Corporation and
Universal Avionics Systems Corporation (UASC) today announce
the support for the WSI InFlight cockpit weather system on
Universal’s MFD-640. Compatibility between WSI InFlight
and most Universal Avionics Flat Panel Integrated Displays
(FPID) is achieved through a new GVC39 Video Adapter Unit (VAU)
that includes a Dzus mounted Video Control Panel (VDP), currently
under development. The system translates information from the
WSI InFlight AV200 receiver and FMS/GPS to conform to the video
display formats of the MFD-640 and other Universal Avionics
FPIDs.
Upon commercial availability of the GVC39 VAU, aircraft
operators with a MFD-640 will be able to display the full
WSI InFlight suite of weather data-link information including
WSI NOWrad®, the only weather radar mosaic to be continuously
quality controlled by meteorologists, EchoTops, METARs, TAFs,
AIRMETs, SIGMETs, TFRs, Winds / Temperatures Aloft, Cloud
to Ground Lightning and Canadian Weather.
“Our unique approach to displaying the WSI InFlight
weather information to the MFD-640 means that Universal Avionics
will be able to offer WSI weather to our entire customer
base in record time,” states Don Berlin, Vice President
and General Manager, Marketing for Universal Avionics Systems. “By
offering the right sized display rendering we will be able
to add to the list of compatible displays the EFI-890R and
our 5” FMS Control Display Units (CDU) without any
redesign.” Lynne Wilson, Executive VP of WSI’s
Aviation and Marine Business Group adds, “WSI shares
Universal Avionics’ demonstrated commitment to meet
customers’ needs. This new WSI InFlight interface will
provide a superior weather solution for these Universal customers.”
Additionally, Universal Avionics is moving toward certification
of the WSI InFlight integration with the Class III EFB, the
Universal UCD. Universal has installed the systems onboard
a Beech King Air 350 and is conducting flight tests for the
purpose of obtaining a STC. General availability of WSI InFlight
on the UCD is planned for Q1, 2005.
