How does WSI InFlight work/How fresh is the data?

WSI InFlight uses a continuous broadcast method to deliver aviation weather directly to your avionics display. The signal is received through the WSI InFlight satellite receiver and a low-profile antenna mounted on the aircraft.

The signal is sent via a high-earth orbit allowing WSI InFlight to provide:

  • Complete coverage of the continental United States at any altitude - including at ground level
  • Automatic data refresh rates occurring every 5-minutes - no request or reply, just turn on your system and start receiving data

What aviation weather products are available?

Depending upon the display you use and your subscription plan, WSI InFlight can provide the following products continuously updated to your cockpit:

  • WSI's NOWrad® radar mosaic - highly accurate, quality controlled NEXRAD radar graphics & animation
  • Graphical and textual displays of METARs, TAFs, SPECIs, SIGMETs, and AIRMETs
  • Echo Tops - track the severity, tops and direction of severe cells
  • Graphical and textual displays of TFRs
  • Winds & Temperature Aloft graphics

What is WSI NOWrad?

WSI NOWrad is the award-winning standard for radar within the weather industry. It is a highly accurate, quality controlled radar product allowing providing you one of the most accurate depictions of the weather conditions that may affect your route.
